METPOINT OCV Compact

Oil vapour measurement

Ensures product purity Monitors activated carbon filters and catalytic converters Prevents contamination of production machinery

Pure quality starts with precise values

Reliable oil vapour measurement

Monitoring oil vapors in compressed air systems is crucial to avoid product quality issues, protect activated carbon filters and catalysts, and prevent production machinery contamination. The METPOINT® OCV compact reliably monitors compressed air, ensuring compliance with ISO 8573-1 quality classes.

Maximum precision thanks to innovative reference system
At the heart of the METPOINT® OCV lies an integrated purifier that produces clean reference air within the device itself. This reference air is used for zero-point comparison, enabling the sensor to detect even the slightest concentration of oil vapor with maximum accuracy.

How it works
The purifier removes oil and hydrocarbon vapors from the compressed air to be measured, producing virtually oil-free reference air. The sensor then compares the contaminated air with the purified air to ensure precise and consistent results.

Proven principle – analogous to BEKOKAT®
The purifier works according to the same catalytic principle as the well-established BEKOKAT®: organic hydrocarbons are broken down and fully converted into carbon dioxide and water. This process ensures stable, high-purity reference air and long-term measurement reliability.

Danger of oil contamination in compressed air

Why accurate oil vapor measurement is crucial?

Ensuring air quality and product purity
  • Ensure product safety: Protect against contamination in sensitive industries
  • Reliable support for compliance with standards: Achieve ISO 8573-1 purity classes for oil-free compressed air
  • Maintain quality in the long term: Minimize product defects and rejects to increase overall quality
  • Protect systems and processes: Prevent oil vapour deposits in pipes, machines and production environments
  • Easy integration into superordinate systems via RS485/Modbus
Sustainable reliability for equipment and processes
  • Longer Service life and retention time of components: Oil vapours can damage filters, walves and sensors, so real-time measurements can help prevent premature wear
  • Cost reduction: Early detection of contamination can reduce maintenance and repair costs
  • Ensure efficiency: Compressed air systems must be both reliable and stable. They are a popular choice for industries with high-quality requirements. Stable compressed air systems guarantee reliable processes and reduce energy and material consumption
Compliance and certification security
  • Ensure compliance: Meet legal requirements and industry-specific purity standards to avoid penalties and facilitate certification; Helps comply with legal requirements and industry-specific air purity standards
  • Strengthen trust by providing documented evidence to increase transparency for customers and authorities
  • Maintain competitiveness with long-term security through tried-and-tested compressed air purity
  • Increase production reliability by detecting contamination early to reduce downtime

Areas of application

Pharmaceuticals

The pharmaceutical industry demands the highest standards of air purity. Even the slightest trace of oil vapor in compressed air can compromise the sterility of medicines, contaminate packaging materials, or interfere with sensitive production processes. Therefore, continuous monitoring of oil content is an absolute regulatory requirement, not just a quality measure.

The METPOINT® OCV Compact provides reliable, real-time measurement results, ensuring compliance with ISO 8573-1 air purity classes and strict GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) requirements.

Food & Beverage Industry

Hygiene and product safety are non-negotiable in the food and beverage industry. Compressed air is often used in production processes such as mixing, aerating, filling, packaging, and cleaning. Even minimal traces of oil vapor in the air can compromise product quality, alter taste and smell, and lead to contamination. This can result in costly product recalls.

To comply with strict hygiene and safety regulations such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and ISO standards, continuous monitoring of oil vapor is essential. The METPOINT® OCV Compact ensures that compressed air consistently meets the required purity class, providing real-time assurance of product safety.

Electronics & Semiconductors

Compressed air is used in many stages of semiconductor and electronics production, including wafer cleaning, drying, transport, packaging, and assembly. The METPOINT® OCV Compact provides real-time measurements of residual oil vapors, enabling manufacturers to:

  • protect sensitive microstructures from invisible residues;
  • reduce product failures and scrap rates caused by contamination;
  • maintain stable, cleanroom-compliant processes in highly sensitive production environments.
Medical applications & Cleanrooms

Even the slightest trace of oil vapor can endanger patient safety, compromise the sterility of instruments, and falsify research results. The METPOINT® OCV Compact is a continuous monitor of residual oil vapour in compressed air, helping to:

  • protect patient safety by ensuring sterile and uncontaminated environments
  • maintain the integrity of research and laboratory work, free from undetected impurities
  • safeguard critical medical equipment and instruments from oil vapour deposits that shorten their lifespan
Automotive industry & Paint Shops

Compressed air is widely used in plastics processing and packaging for applications such as molding, conveying, cooling, and packaging. Oil vapor contamination in the air can affect the quality of the products, impair sealing and bonding processes, and leave residues on materials. The METPOINT® OCV Compact offers the following measurable benefits:

  • product quality is improved by avoiding invisible contamination during production;
  • reduced material waste and rejects cut costs and increase efficiency;
  • facilitates stable and reliable processes in applications where compressed air comes into direct contact with products or packaging.
Plastics & Packaging Industry

Compressed air is a critical utility used for molding, cooling, conveying, sealing, and packaging. Even small amounts of oil vapor can impair the quality of bonding and sealing, leave unwanted residues on materials, and affect the consistency of components.

The METPOINT® OCV Compact continuously monitors and documents oil vapor levels in compressed air, ensuring compliance with ISO 8573-1 purity standards. It reduces rejects and material waste while safeguarding process stability. The result is higher product quality, reliable packaging performance, and greater efficiency across the entire production chain.
